Within any brand, certain models are worth far more than others. A Rolex Submariner (ref. 116610) is worth significantly more than a Rolex Oyster Perpetual of the same age. The reference number (usually on the case back or between the lugs) helps identify the exact model.

Watches in excellent condition with original parts command the highest prices. Polished cases, replaced bezels, or aftermarket dials reduce value. Original condition — even with honest wear — is generally preferred by collectors.

Having the original box, warranty card, and papers (collectively called "full set" or "B&P") can add 10–30% to a watch's value. Don't throw these away.

Vintage watches (generally pre-1990) can be extremely valuable, especially limited editions or discontinued references. Some vintage Rolex models are worth 10x their original retail price.
